Kristin Beck's memoir, "Warrior Princess: A Navy SEAL's Journey to Coming Out Transgender," is a groundbreaking and inspiring account of one woman's journey to live her truth as a transgender woman.
Beck was a decorated Navy SEAL who served in the military for over 20 years. She was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, where she fought bravely and earned the respect of her fellow soldiers. However, Beck also struggled with her gender identity throughout her time in the military. She knew that she was a woman, but she was afraid to come out for fear of being rejected and losing her career.
After leaving the military, Beck finally decided to transition to female. She began hormone therapy and underwent gender confirmation surgery. Coming out as transgender was a difficult and challenging process, but Beck was determined to live her life authentically as a woman.
In "Warrior Princess," Beck shares her story with candor and courage. She describes the challenges she faced as a transgender person, including discrimination, prejudice, and even violence. However, she also writes about the love and support she received from her family and friends.
Beck's memoir is a powerful and inspiring account of one woman's journey to live her truth. It is a must-read for anyone who is interested in transgender issues, or for anyone who is struggling with their own identity.
Excerpt from "Warrior Princess"
“I remember the first time I put on a dress. I was 10 years old, and I was home alone. I found my mother’s dress in her closet, and I tried it on. It felt so right. I felt like I was finally myself. But I was also terrified. I knew that if my parents found out, they would be angry. So I took the dress off and put it back in my mother’s closet.
I spent the next several years living in fear. I was afraid of being discovered, afraid of being rejected. I tried to suppress my feelings, but they wouldn’t go away.
Finally, when I was 20 years old, I decided to come out to my parents. I was terrified, but I knew that I couldn’t live my life in fear anymore.
My parents were shocked and confused at first. But they eventually came to accept me for who I am. They have been my biggest supporters throughout my journey.”
