Glick's memoir begins with her childhood in Odessa. She describes her family's close ties to the Jewish community, and her own early experiences with anti-Semitism. In 1979, Glick's family was forced to leave Odessa after her father was arrested for his involvement in the Jewish emigration movement. The family settled in New York City, where Glick continued her education. After graduating from Columbia University, Glick moved to Israel in 1991.
In Israel, Glick worked as a journalist and political commentator. She also became involved in the settler movement, and in 2002 she moved to Hebron, a city in the West Bank. Hebron is a holy city for Jews, Muslims, and Christians, and it has been a flashpoint of violence for many years. Glick's memoir describes her experiences living in Hebron, and her efforts to promote peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.
From Odessa to Hebron is a powerful and moving account of one woman's journey of faith, family, and the Holy Land. Glick's memoir is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, or in the personal stories of those who have lived through it.
